Joe Hurley is a London-bred, Irish-blooded New Yorker who is called “the best singer of vowels in rock since Shane Macgowan” by the Village Voice.  He is widely heralded for both the emotional delivery in his gravel-throated baritone and his finely-tuned sense of lyrical detail.
His songs blend a funky and anarchic energy that is pure New York with a genuine Irish flavor.

Get psyched for Christine Ohlman
On Stage At 6pm Until 7:15

The queen of blue-eyed rock n’ soul who grew up blending the sweetness of a Memphis horn line and the raunch of an electronic guitar riff.  You’ll remember her from Saturday Night Live, with her trademark beehive hair teased up in honor of Ronnie Spector.  She performed at the most recent presidential inaugural and has belted out tunes with blues legends like Eddie Kirkland and Hubert Sumlin.

Liz McNicholl
On Stage At 11:00am Until Noon

Liz McNicholl grew up in a small village in County Meath, Ireland.  She started her own Connecticut based band in 2002, The Crickstones, formed from some of the finest musicians in the area.  Their sound has been evolving into a crisp blend of folk and bluegrass with a distinct Celtic flair.

Sister Funk
On Stage 3:30 Until 4:15

The nation’s hottest all-female band that brings a high-energy stage show to a growing national following.  According to Conch Key West “Sister Funk gives the most animated rock performance in memory; these ladies impress even seasoned rockaholics.” Sister Funk is the music of the future; come see history in the making!

The Tipperary Knights
On stage At 12:30 Until 1:30

The Tipperary Knights bring their special brand of Irish music played by Tom DeSantis on keyboard and Carmel Johnston on fiddle, whistle, and bodhran..  Bobby Vesey rounds out the band with great guitar and all are powerful vocalists.

Our own John Mackey’s Band plays an eclectic mix of classic and contemporary rock, and aside from his vocal talent the lead singer is coach of our youngest Gaelic football players.
On Stage At 4:45 until 5:30

Joey Concepcion is an upcoming rock guitar sensation from nearby Orange, Connecticut.  At only 18 years of age he possesses talent far beyond his years.  From passionately expressive solos to burning shred, he is turning many heads in the industry with his advanced maturity with the instrument.

“Celtic Rock has become a mainstay and a regional hit as a great time for a good cause”, says producer Bill Hylton, “there is no other musical event in New England where you can experience such a vibrant and powerful assembly of musicians at such low cost and high value.” There will be kids’ activities on offer, and children under 16 will be admitted free of charge.  The event is a full-scale outdoor music festival complete with vendors, plenty of food and drink, and all things Irish.

Tickets for Celtic Rock ’10 are $25 or $20 for civil servants, students and military.  All proceeds benefit the New Haven Gaelic Football & Hurling Club’s Irish sports program.
Over 125 area youths play the Games of the Gaels with the New York GAA Minor Board and Celtic Rock has sent them to competitive events in San Francisco, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Boston.  Celtic Rock ’10 and future events like it will further fund our competitive presence and ultimately send our young players to Ireland.
